Hello, I am Angela Colman, Senior Development Officer Out of School Childcare 4Children-Lambeth and my colleague Cheryl Chase is the Development Officer for Out of School Childcare 4Children-Lambeth. We were appointed by 4Children to work with Lambeth Borough Council in June 2009.

Our role within the Borough is to maintain and support high quality, Out of School child-centered play provision and childcare. The Play Work values and 5 outcomes for Every Child Matters give a balanced framework for play workers, parents, children, volunteers and those involved in the child care setting. These also provide a good basis of understanding from the play work perspective for the purpose of out of school provision which can mean different things to different people.

We aim to support practitioners in the delivery of play, care and promote opportunities for children from diverse backgrounds, abilities and cultures in a friendly, safe and secure environment. We are able to offer an increased understanding of the Ofsted requirements, Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Self Evaluation (SEF), Safeguarding, Qualifications and Training and other formats which impact the day to day running of a setting.

We work alongside settings to support their growth and development in various ways and develop links between Practitioners, Lambeth Borough Council, Schools and the Community in a holistic way that supports children’s play and development.

The website, newsletter and local network meetings (Playwork Forums) aim to engage providers, staff and parents, provide information, sign posting and is a useful platform for communicating and supporting other practitioners.

4Children are an organisation where the child’s voice is heard, we aim to support all providers in Lambeth ensure that their child care provision remains of high quality.
